                                  - GAME BLOCKS 0.2.3 -
                                       for BYOB

Game Blocks is free, open source software, built upon UC Berkeley's "BYOB," which in turn is built upon MIT's "Scratch." See "LICENSE.txt" for specific licensing information.

The easiest starting point for using these blocks is the list of tutorial videos on the New Life Interactive website, which includes a video on the intallation instructions below.

To use these blocks, install the latest version of BYOB (3.1.1 at the time of this library's release). These blocks are *not* compatible with BYOB 4.0 (a.k.a Snap!).

Open BYOB, then select File --> Import Project. Choose the file in the "blocks" folder named "Core_Blocks.ypr". This will import the core set of blocks plus a sprite. You can delete the sprites and still retain the blocks.

Some documentation will be loaded into the Stage's scripts panel. This, too, can be deleted without side effects.

Two additional sets of blocks, Physics_Blocks.ypr and Cartoon_Blocks.ypr, can be imported separately. Due to their complexity, however, they strain the BYOB user interface, so use these blocks only if you need them. The Cartoon blocks don't degrade BYOB too badly, but plan to run BYOB on a modern desktop computer if you want to use the physics blocks.

For more documentation, see DOCUMENTATION.RTF.

For example programs showing how to accomplish common tasks, see the BYOB projects in the "examples" folder.
